About We Lick Rocks

We Lick Rocks is the #1 rockhounding app built for gem hunters, mineral collectors, and outdoor adventurers across the United States. Whether you're a weekend hobbyist pulling your first quartz crystal out of the ground or a seasoned prospector searching for rare sapphires, this app is designed to make every dig more rewarding.

Our interactive dig sites map lets you search any area in the USA to discover where precious stones, gems, and minerals have been found. You can pin your own discoveries with photos, share them with the community, and help fellow rockhounds find their next great location. We also maintain a comprehensive directory of pay-to-dig mines across the country, so you can plan a real mining experience with your family or friends.

Beyond the map, We Lick Rocks offers an AI-powered rock identification tool called "Name That Rock!" — simply snap a photo and our AI will identify your specimen instantly. We also feature a growing encyclopedia of 18+ gems and minerals, a trip planner for multi-stop rockhounding routes, field notes with GPS tagging, a trade board for buying and selling specimens, local club and event listings, and much more.

We Lick Rocks is built and maintained by a passionate team of rockhounding enthusiasts who believe that the thrill of finding something beautiful beneath your feet should be accessible to everyone. Our mission is to grow the rockhounding community, make geological knowledge approachable, and give collectors the tools they need to explore confidently.
